Meals for The Salvation Army- Volunteer Week Day 4!
For the fourth day of our 4th Annual Volunteer Week, our team had the chance to volunteer for the Salvation Army of Albany. Our group of five included Alescia DeFilippo, Terrell Burns, Meghan Mosch, Nikki DeMeo, and Michael Felitte. Our team had the opportunity to prepare and package meals that were being served throughout Albany on their mobile canteen van.
About The Salvation Army:
Founded in 1865, The Salvation Army has remained dedicated to serving individuals and families in need. Through a wide range of programs and outreach efforts, the organization helps fight hunger, support addiction recovery, assist disaster survivors, and provide essential resources to local communities.
The Salvation Army’s Albany location is headquartered at 20 South Ferry Street in Albany, New York.
Our Volunteer Work- Prepping Free Meals for the Community:
This year, our team had the opportunity to volunteer with The Salvation Army by preparing chicken salad sandwiches, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, Caesar salad, and apple slices. After preparing and packaging more than 150 meals, our team helped load The Salvation Army’s mobile canteen food truck, which traveled throughout the City of Albany to distribute the meals to adults, children, and seniors in need.
Previous Volunteer Work:
Last year, our team participated in a similar program- preparing chicken salad sandwiches, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, corn salad, and fruit cups. After preparing and packaging the meals, our employees helped load the mobile canteen food truck, which traveled throughout Albany to distribute them to members of the community.
Earlier that year, Northeastern Insurance also donated $1,500 to The Salvation Army of Albany after receiving the Main Street America Insurance Community Impact Award. Our agency was one of only three agencies nationwide selected for the award, which recognizes businesses that participate in initiatives and programs that positively impact their communities.
Impact on Our Team:
Volunteering at The Salvation Army to help prepare meals to be served was a rewarding experience for our team knowing we were helping people in the city of Albany.
